Maria Grist
I studied for my B.A. at Belfast Art College, Northern Ireland in the early 90s. I travelled after my degree, walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain and spent a year in Australia, including 2 months on a remote sheep station in Western Australia. When my travelling adventures came to an end I returned to the UK, and settled in London.
I honed my graphic design skills working for a small design agency in Brixton, I stayed for 7 years, working from a junior to a senior designer. My clients were mostly not-for-profit companies and organisations. I left to work exclusively in the not-for-profit sector when I joined Save the Children as an in-house designer. This role gave me the chance to work on some high profile and challenging projects. I art directed photo shoots for major fundraising campaigns, adding to my skill set and I stepped into creative leadership managing a team of designers.
I have 14 years experience working as a designer on print and digital projects. I am analytical and resourceful in my approach to design – give me a small budget and I will find a way to make something original and exciting. I will always strive to take the brief deeper into more interesting territory.
